ARCHETIVITY is an artist’s book created in 2025 to commemorate the 45th anniversary of Michael Winkler’s interdisciplinary project.

In his 2021 memoir (below), he discussed the work he’s done in the field of mathematics concerning the patterning in the distribution of prime numbers and the inability of mathematical language to express it. He also discussed his published work concerning the relationship between modern language and early artifacts of the symbolic mind. And of course there was in depth discussion of his writings in philosophy concerning the possible implications of his discovery of the unintentionally meaningful patterning in the signs for words (which has been the subject of hundreds of artworks, and is at the foundation of his ongoing project). This commemorative little artist’s book is a concise expression of how these seemingly diverse activities are all tied to a central focus on the exploration of the Natural laws of consciousness that make our perceptions and conceptions of meaning possible and shareable. He refers to this central focus as an exploration of archetivity. A general interest book on the topic is currently being written. And as in the past, current works that can be described as art play a significant role in this phase of his interdisciplinary project.
The artist’s book Archetivity was created as an offset-printed limited edition to send to the project’s supporters and those believed to have an interest–it isn’t available for purchase, but a shareable PDF can be downloaded here.
